Transferable Skills: Breaking Into the Film & Television Industry
The Konnect Conference is The Secret Society of Black Creatives’ signature community experience designed to open doors into the film and television industry. Built on the belief that talent is everywhere, but access is not.
The Konnect exists to bridge that gap.
The film industry in Massachusetts, like many creative industries, is deeply network-based. Opportunities often flow through relationships, referrals, and proximity. For many in our communities, those networks have historically felt out of reach — especially when the rooms don’t reflect your neighborhood, your background, or your lived experience.
The Konnect changes that.
This conference is a dynamic gathering where aspiring creatives, career changers, students, and professionals discover how their existing skills — from administration and design to logistics, marketing, tech, and beyond — are directly transferable into film and television careers. Through panels, conversations, and real-world insight from working industry professionals, attendees gain clarity, connections, and actionable next steps.
More than an event, The Konnect is a bridge. A starting point.
A space to build community, expand networks, and see yourself in the industry. Because breaking into film shouldn’t depend solely on who you know — it should start with what you bring to the table.
THE DROP
comprises a collection of engaging conversations and immersive workshops featuring accomplished and emerging film industry experts. Through these sessions, participants gain valuable insights into the professionals' journeys into the industry, as well as their expertise in their specific areas of focus. This unique opportunity allows individuals to visualize themselves in various industry roles, acquire knowledge, and draw inspiration from the experiences shared.

THE DOJO
is an impactful mentoring program that supports individuals in transitioning into the industry. Qualified candidates participate in a comprehensive workshop and then have the opportunity to shadow industry professionals. This hands-on experience not only enriches their skill set but also comes with a stipend to alleviate any financial challenges. The program is dedicated to providing essential support to individuals who may not have the means to pursue their professional aspirations.
SSBC ACTORS FORUM (AF)
Led by professional actors who serve as the head of the SSBC Actors Forum.
The SSBC AF provides a platform for actors to network, access resources, and receive advice and support.
They lead acting workshops and provide opportunities for actor’s study their craft and showcase their talents.
